Who is behind stadt.land.plus Türkiye?

Politikfabrik e.V. – student consultancy for political communication

The Politikfabrik e.V. is a non-profit student consultancy for political communication with its office located in  Berlin, Germany. It was founded in 2002 by students of the Otto-Suhr-Institute for political science at the Free University Berlin. Today, students of all fields of study work on charitable projects, hereby gaining practical working experience and taking over responsibility. Working at the Politikfabrik serves as a complement to the primarily theoretical university studies.

With the introduction of the online tool Wahl-O-Mat for the parliamentary elections in 2002, the Politikfabrik e.V. made its mark as a dynamic and creative brainpool for innovative political communication. Since then the Politikfabrik has devoted itself to political education and the promotion of intercultural understanding. One of its most popular projects is Die Wahl Gang, a regular campaign aiming to inform first-time voters about their rights as citizens and to motivate them in giving their vote. It will be carried out for the sixth time in 2011. The project stadt.land.plus Türkiye / gez.gör.yaz Deutschland also has two successful predecessors. For the first time in 2007, the Politikfabrik sent a group of young people as eu_checkers to the new EU-members Bulgaria and Romania from where they reported about what they experienced. Motivated by the great feedback, the same project took place in the Ukraine in 2008 under the name stadt.land.plus Ukraine. This year it is time for a third round: organised and coordinated by a student team of the Politikfabrik, 15 young Germans hit the road for a journey to Turkey.

The Stiftung Mercator

Stiftung Mercator is one of Germany’s largest foundations. It initiates and funds projects that promote better educational opportunities in schools and universities. In the spirit of Gerhard Mercator, it supports initiatives that embody the idea of open-mindedness and tolerance through intercultural encounters, encouraging the sharing of knowledge and culture. The foundation provides a platform for new ideas to enable people – regardless of their national, cultural or social background – to develop their personality, become involved in society and make the most of the opportunities available to them. In this way it wants to let ideas take flight. Stiftung Mercator takes an entrepreneurial, international and professional approach to its work. It has a particular affinity with the Ruhr area, the home of its founding family.

Toplum Gönüllüleri Vakfı (TOG)

TOG is a foundation of and for young people named as community volunteers. It was founded in 2002. Our Head Office is located in Istanbul. Young community volunteers – mostly aged between 17 and 25 – have for years successfully been implementing various projects at local, national and international level. TOG believes that by leadership and social engagement of the youth, it is possible to realize social peace, solidarity and change. One of our purposes also is to provide guidance and support from adults who believe in the synergy created by young people and are willing to offer physical and moral investment for them. We want to make a contribution to the development of a youth with social awareness, self-esteem and cultural sensitivity through its participation and involvement in projects. In this sense, young people realize various projects and help to turn the youth’s energy into a social advantage. TOG is an organisation working with, for and through young people. It has created a network of TOG youth organizations that support young people in implementing their own projects all over Turkey.
